Have you seen the last episode of Fiila? I did. Well, I missed the beginning of the show but tuned in just in time to see a video by the kid Mustic featuring his mentor Bilal of the Poetic X. While the video was good, the song in itself was sub-par, never mind the fact that Mustic is a young-up-and-comer. I can almost hear you argue that he’s young and needs exposure but I say nah let’s encourage him to make better songs, he has plenty of time to grow.
The interview with Og Log I enjoyed, Sheikh Tijan asked very pertinent questions about his departure from the Block Entertainment amongst other things. Shiekh definitely knows how to pick his questions but I don’t get why the entire interview was conducted in Wollof since both of them are fluent in English. In any case, I would suggest the use of subtitles next time an interview is conducted in a local language. Just to give it a broader reach you know. OG Log on the other hand is a talented rap artist but I never knew he could sing too.

I noticed that there was fluid chemistry between Blacka and the new co-host Sista Njie-Colley. They wore similar gear in different colors and Blacka was back to wearing her trademark turban with the wrap style tweaked a little. Hey Blacka! What happened to the original Blackashine turban? Bring that back if you gotta wear any kind of headwrap. Don’t forget you inspired a whole generation to rock turbans the Blackashine way.
Then there was the JKnight video which somehow I couldn’t connect with. Nice pictures, nice song, nice everything and that was still a little off for me. Why? Because I still have this mental image of JKnight as the Supremo of the D'Talez Empire (this was an underground hiphop movement based in the FajiKunda-Latrikunda area back in the early days of the music renaissance). I know he’s rebranded and even flipped his name to 3:16 but he is a legend of the streets and that, my friends, should not be sullied. Again, don’t get me wrong, I totally respect his creative foray into other genres. It’s just a little difficult for me to make a connection, yet.
Next week promises to be extraordinarily interesting as a short snippet of an exclusive interview with the ever controversial rap retiree, Gee, was showcased towards the end of the show. So be on the lookout for that. I will.
